A Volvo BM 218 from approximately 1968 is currently being dismantled at our facility. The machine has not been test-run and its operating condition is unknown – we did not have the opportunity to start or run the machine before dismantling began. Each component is assessed individually as it is removed.

About parts condition: As the machine has not been test-run, we do not state an operating condition per part. We assess and describe each component as it is removed. If you have questions about a specific part – get in touch and we will tell you what we observed during dismantling.

About the Volvo BM 218

The Volvo BM 218 is a wheel loader manufactured by AB Bolinder-Munktell in Eskilstuna, Sweden. The machine is found under several designations – Bolinder-Munktell BM 218 and LM 218 refer to the same model, where LM stood for Lastmaskin (loader) in the original product catalogue. The model was produced between 1959 and 1970 and belongs to the early generation of Swedish wheel loaders – a direct descendant of the H10 from 1954, the first series-produced wheel loader of its kind.

The machine is powered by a 3-cylinder 4-stroke diesel engine of the BM 1113 type, producing approximately 56–60 hp. The TD designation in the model name stands for Twin Disc – a fluid coupling between the engine and gearbox that allows the machine to travel very slowly without the engine stalling or becoming overloaded. This was a practical advantage during grading and bucket work and one of the reasons the model was well regarded in its time.

The machine weighs 6 tonnes and measures 5,100 mm in length. The Volvo BM 218 was manufactured in Eskilstuna and sold worldwide. Today machines of this type are found primarily with enthusiasts and in collections – they rarely serve an active role in production but are preserved for their historical and sentimental value.

In 1973 Bolinder-Munktell was renamed Volvo BM AB, and in 1995 the operation became Volvo Construction Equipment. The Volvo BM 218 was therefore manufactured under the original Bolinder-Munktell name. Read more about Volvo BM's history.
