Dismantling – Volvo BM 616B (1976)

A Volvo BM 616B from 1976 has arrived for dismantling. Nearly fifty years old — and still a machine that brings recognition to anyone who has worked with Swedish construction equipment from that era. Parts are being registered in stock on an ongoing basis.

Machine data

  • Make: Volvo BM
  • Model: 616B
  • Type: Backhoe loader
  • Year: 1976
  • Serial number: 2053

The 616B is a backhoe loader — an articulated machine with a front loader and rear backhoe. During the 1970s this was a common configuration in Swedish agriculture, municipal operations and smaller civil engineering work. One machine, two functions.

The Volvo BM badge tells the story of the machine's origins — a merger of two Swedish industrial classics that together formed one of the most recognisable tractor and equipment lines in Scandinavia.

1832

Munktells Mekaniska Verkstäder founded in Eskilstuna — one of Sweden's oldest industrial companies.

1932

Bolinders and Munktells merge to form Bolinder-Munktell (BM).

1950

Volvo acquires Bolinder-Munktell. Operations continue under the Volvo BM name with production in Eskilstuna.

1970s

Volvo BM expands into construction equipment. The 616B is produced during this period and sold to farmers, municipalities and contractors across Sweden and the Nordics.

1979

Volvo BM merges with Finnish Valmet to form Volvo BM Valmet.

Today

The tractor business lives on under the Valtra brand. Volvo BM-era machines are still in service with owners who maintain them and can access spare parts.

Parts from the machine are being registered continuously — hydraulics, cab, front loader assembly, backhoe, transmission and chassis. Contact us if you are looking for something specific.
