Caterpillar – machines that set the global standard

Caterpillar is one of the world’s best-known brands in construction and earthmoving machinery. With roots in the United States, Caterpillar machines have become synonymous with durable design, high reliability and equipment built for continuous operation in demanding environments.

In Sweden, Caterpillar machines are used across construction, mining, industry and material handling. Many machines remain in service long after production has ended, which makes it important to find the right spare part to keep them operating over time.

Background: What is Caterpillar?

Caterpillar Inc. was founded in 1925 in the United States and has since grown into a global industrial group focused on construction machinery, engines and power solutions for industrial applications.

The name Caterpillar comes from early tracked tractors whose movement resembled a caterpillar. This became the foundation for the name and the brand that later gained global recognition.

Caterpillar machines – broad model ranges

Caterpillar manufactures a wide range of machines. Some of the most common machine types on the Swedish market include:

  • Tracked excavators
  • Wheeled excavators
  • Wheel loaders
  • Dozers and track-type tractors
  • Dump trucks and articulated haulers

Model designations are often numeric and are updated over time across different generations. Older models may be out of production, but they are still widely used around the world.

Caterpillar in Sweden

Caterpillar machines have been present on the Swedish market for decades, mainly through dealers and service organizations focused on construction and industrial applications.

Because the installed base is large, many older Caterpillar machines are still in daily operation, especially in heavy construction, mining and material handling.

Examples of Caterpillar models still in operation

On the Swedish market, both older and newer Caterpillar machines remain in active use. One example is the CAT IT38H, a wheel loader that can still be found in operation in certain businesses, even though the model has been out of production for a long time.

This long service life is one of the reasons the Caterpillar aftermarket is both broad and long-term.

Why are Caterpillar machines so popular?

  • Design for heavy-duty work
Machines built for demanding loads and long shifts.
  • Long service life
Many machines remain in use long after production has ended.
  • Global aftermarket
One of the world’s largest spare parts markets for construction machinery.
  • Service-friendly solutions
Proven designs and clear layouts make maintenance easier.

Caterpillar and spare parts

Because Caterpillar machines often remain in service for a long time, it is important to make sure the spare part fits. Differences between model ranges, generations and specifications mean that part numbers, serial numbers or a photo of the existing part are often needed to identify the correct component.

This applies whether the machine is a newer generation or an older model that is out of production but still used daily.
